Today, I am reflecting on emotional experiences—even those I might describe as “heavy.” When I choose to stay present with them, the body finally gets the chance to fully express and process the experience, just as it does with all emotions.
I practice presence—or simply being here, as I like to say—even when internal or external circumstances don’t seem resolvable through presence alone. What do I mean by that? Well, when we stay with what is felt in the moment—not the interpretation of the situation, but the actual sensation in the body—something subtle or tangible is often felt. We could call it a blockage clearing; stagnant energy beginning to move, a little or a lot. We don’t need to know where the blockage comes from; it can be the shedding of traumas or old “misunderstandings” stored in the system—assumptions and conclusions made throughout life that aren’t quite true to our essence.
So, I invite you to stay present and allow yourself to experience it all.
This week, I spoke with a friend who was in emotional pain. Instead of discussing the “why” behind her feelings, we sat together and she allowed the pain to be expressed by the body. We didn’t try the “how’s” and “shoulds” of managing emotional pain. The body knows how to harmonize itself and let unresolved emotions be processed and neutralized. The only “action” we need to choose is to let it happen and be a loving witness to the process.
It’s an act of courage—not always easy—but with loving breaths and presence, the body can harmonize any state.
To me, this is an act of self-kindness. I do it for the part of me that needs time to process experiences—the part that gets lost in the limitations of a life lived through the lens of limited time and achievements. I allow the body to process by being present with the feelings and sensations instead of trying to understand the stories or dramas of the mind. I am the one who chooses to stay with what is unresolved or “unfinished” within me, so that part can return home to where love is always present—our natural state of being.
Staying present with the full spectrum of emotion allows for more harmony in life. It reveals our true nature, which is always in resonance with nature and universal laws. I truly feel we are life itself—a force field in interplay with beautiful physical body vessels. Through all our functions and senses, we receive experiences to remember life by.
Well, this is what is on my heart today.
